But I want it to be transparent... and by it I mean you, so disappear... now please... what are you waiting for? I said go away!

Seriously though, this is rather easy. When saving the file to keep the transparency you can either save it in the default raw for GIM (.xcf) or export it to PNG, JPG's like to hog the limelight so don't support it.

  1. Open the file in GIMP.
  2. On the menu select Layer > Transparency > Add Alpha Channel
Now if you use the eraser, it will make it transparent rather then showing the selected background colour.
